Fox Sports has bowed out of the bidding for the Bowl Championship Series games, clearing the way for ESPN to claim the rights to the 2011-2014 Fiesta, Sugar, Orange and BCS Championship games.
In a statement released Monday afternoon, Fox Sports announced that it decided against trying to match ESPN’s offer for the four post-season games, which sources have eyeballed at around $500 million, or $125 million per year.
In snapping up the rights to the bowl games, the ESPN family now controls all five of January’s marquee match-ups.
