The Department of Justice’s antitrust division denied the sale of WTVR-TV, Raycom’s CBS affiliate in Richmond, Va. to Sinclair Broadcast Group, Sinclair announced Wednesday (Aug. 27).
In June, Sinclair, which owns WRLH-TV, the Fox affiliate in Richmond, agreed to buy the assets of WTVR for $85 million. Because Sinclair could not own two top-rated stations in the market, Sinclair simultaneously announced it would sell the assets of WRLH-TV to Carma Broadcasting. Following the sale of WRLH, Sinclair would have handled sales and other non-programming-related services to WRLH via a local sales agreement.
