Go to the website, click on Ratings Box (the first category), then Last Night’s Results, and Thursday, January 22, 2009. ---------- -Yesterday’s Winners:Bones (Fox), CSI (CBS), Grey’s Anatomy (ABC), Eleventh Hour (CBS) -Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats):My Name is Earl (NBC), Kath & Kim (NBC) ---------- -Ratings Breakdown: CBS led the overnight troops on this typical Thursday in January, with a 14 percent advantage over second-place ABC. Fox finished third thanks to a boost from the relocated (and underrated) Bones, which always gives the network a boost no matter where it airs. Next was NBC, followed by the CW. Since we are all wondering how CSI did minus William Petersen (and with Laurence Fishburne), let’s start with the veteran forensic crime solving drama. The good news: it won the 9 p.m. hour and finished as the highest-rated show of the evening, with a 10.6 rating/16 share in the overnights. Comparably, that built from a repeat of CSI (#3: 5.5/ 9 at 8 p.m.) by a considerable 93 percent. One year earlier, a repeat of CSI scored a 9.3/14 in the hour on Jan. 24. 2008. But versus its typical overnight average for originals this season, it was down slightly. Also on CBS was freshman drama Eleventh Hour, which won the 10 p.m. hour with an 8.0/13 in the overnights and improved its retention out of CSI (75 percent). ABC has nothing unusual to report with its combination of Ugly Betty (#2: 5.7/ 9), Grey’s Anatomy (#2: 9.2/14) and recently relocated Private Practice (#2: 6.1/10), which held an acceptable (but far from spectacular) 66 percent of its Grey’s Anatomy lead-in. But the good news for Fox was the arrival of Bones on Thursday at a time period winning 6.2/10 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that was a double-digit improvement over recent occupant Kitchen Nightmares. A second episode of Bones finished third in the considerably more difficult 9 p.m. hour, with a 4.9/ 7. NBC had nothing of note to report in the overnights with its line-up of My Name is Earl (#4: 4.2/ 7), soon-to-depart Kath & Kim (#4: 3.4/ 5), The Office (#3t: 4.8/ 7), 30 Rock (#4: 4.0/ 6) and soon-to-retire ER (#3: 5.3/ 9). But the one consistent positive is The Office, which always manages to score among adults 18-49. In ER news, meanwhile, former cast member George Clooney was apparently filming scenes yesterday for his upcoming guest shot. The CW capped off the evening with its combination of Smallville (#5: 2.5/ 4), which seems to have perked up in recent weeks, and the compatible Supernatural (#5: 2.1/ 3). Source: Nielsen Media Research data_______________________________________________________________________________ Ratings Box:What’s Hot/What’s Not -Solitary Scores on Fox Reality Channel:The third season premiere of Fox Reality Channel’s Solitary v3.0 broke the record books on Saturday, Jan. 17, with 330,000 total viewers and 200,000 adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Comparably, that was more than triple the year-ago time period average in the demo. And it delivered the highest ratings ever for an original series on the four year-old cable network. -The Daily Show Picks Up Steam on Tuesday:The Tuesday, Jan. 20 telecast of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart rose to 2.6 million viewers at 11 p.m. Comparably, it finished as the most-watched show on basic cable in the half-hour among adults 18-49 (1.5 million) and men 18-34 (620,000).
