Bridgerton’s breakout star, Regé-Jean Page—who played Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings—will not return to the hit Netflix drama.

Netflix and Shondaland—Shonda Rhimes’ production company, which is behind the show—made the announcement today via a dispatch from Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, the society gossip publication featured on the show.

Top line

“Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” the message read.

The note went on to say that while his presence on screen will be missed, love interest Phoebe Dynevor’s character Daphne will remain part of the series.
