BET Creates BET Studios to Give Black Storytellers Equity Ownership

It will create content for ViacomCBS brands and third-party platforms

ViacomCBS announced BET Studios on Wednesday, a new venture led by Aisha Summers-Burke that provides equity ownership to Black content creators across TV and film.

The studio will create content for a variety of ViacomCBS platforms—including Paramount+, Showtime, CBS, Nickelodeon, BET+ and BET—as well as third-party platforms that “seek best-in-class content from both leading and rising Black creatives.”

Between the lines

BET Studios will launch with principal partners Kenya Barris (a former Adweek TV Creator of the Year), Rashida Jones and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas.
