Walmart Will Electrify Its Delivery Fleet With 5,000 Vans From GM’s BrightDrop

Electric vans could fulfill customer orders as early as 2023

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon joined GM CEO Mary Barra during her CES keynote on Wednesday to announce the retailer has reserved 5,000 vans from GM’s electric transport unit, BrightDrop.

The electric vans may begin hitting the road for Walmart deliveries as early as next year, and will help the retailer meet its goal of operating a zero-emissions delivery fleet by 2040.

“As important as it is that we save our customers time and money through convenient delivery options, it’s just as important that we focus on creating a more sustainable last-mile delivery fleet that avoids emissions,” said Tom Ward, svp of last mile at Walmart U.S.,
