Walmart is betting big on a new type of efficient indoor farming for its California stores.

The big box giant announced this week it is investing in vertical farming startup Plenty as part of the South San Francisco company’s $400 million Series E funding round. The deal will allow Walmart to begin shipping leafy greens from Plenty’s southern California farm to its locations across the state starting later this year. Walmart will also gain a seat on Plenty’s board of directors.
