Income inequality is bigger in the United States than in other developed nations, and the pandemic likely made things worse. At the end of 2021, the gap between the rich and poor was at its widest since World War II, according to researchers at the University of California, Berkeley.

It could be a coincidence, but a major theme of Super Bowl 2022 advertisers was making money in nontraditional ways—from betting on sports to investing in cryptocurrency.
