Snap Acquires Mind-Controller Startup to Integrate With Future AR Glasses

NextMind translates neural activity into computer controls

Mobile messaging app Snap announced it is buying brain-computer interface startup NextMind as it looks for ways to make its wearable augmented reality (AR) glasses easier to navigate hands-free.

The Paris-based startup uses a headset to sense electrical activity in a wearer’s visual cortex and translate it into movement of an image on a PC screen. Snap says it eventually wants to integrate this technology into future versions of its Spectacles devices, which superimpose AR graphics on real-life surroundings through its lenses.
