Newly named Pinterest CEO Bill Ready boasts an extensive background in commerce and payments from previous roles at Google, PayPal, Braintree and Venmo, so it should come as no surprise that the company’s first major feature reveal under his watch is centered on shopping.

Pinterest introduced four shopping-related updates Thursday: the Pinterest API (application-programming interface) for Shopping, product tagging for Pins, video in catalogs and a Shop tab on business profiles.

The Pinterest API for Shopping was inspired by commerce, and it will bring with it new catalog management and product metadata features to boost data quality for merchants on the platform.
