GameStop Is Reportedly Building an NFT Marketplace

Gaming brands are among the first to embrace virtual worlds and currencies

One year after GameStop’s Reddit-inspired short stock squeeze drama, the gaming retailer is reportedly kicking of 2022 with plans for an NFT marketplace and cryptocurrency partnerships.

That’s according to The Wall Street Journal, which cited “people familiar with its plans.”

GameStop did not respond to a request for comment from Adweek.

Per the report, GameStop is creating an online hub that will allow customers to buy, sell and trade NFTs—nonfungible tokens—including outfits and weapons for video game avatars, and is asking developers and publishers to list their own NFTs on the marketplace.
