AT&T Used A Hologram Activation to Illustrate the History of Cellphones

The futuristic display by Proto was the first demonstration of a new kind of out-of-home ad

AT&T tapped hologram technology to bring the history of cellphones to life as part of recent activation at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas during a Latin music festival.

The carrier used portal-like display devices from startup Proto Hologram to render three-dimensional objects in 4K, volumetric resolution in such a way that it looked like the historic phones were rotating while suspended in the air.

The activation marked the first public demonstration of the startup’s 25-inch Proto M hologram box, which it’s hoping will help create a market for a new format of immersive out-of-home activations.
