As AR Booms, Pokémon Go Developer Niantic Has Big Plans

As augmented reality (AR) enjoys a surge of popularity during the pandemic, Niantic, the company behind the game Pokémon Go, is eyeing new ways to expand its stake in a market that it, in many ways, pioneered.

The company announced it is teaming with convenience store chain Circle K to turn 14,000 of the retailer’s locations into hot spots in the game. Last week, it teamed with Nintendo to launch its latest AR game, Pikmin Bloom, and has plans to follow it with a slate of other titles.
