Y&R Trio Wins Advanced Micro Devices

LOS ANGELES WPP Group’s Y&R has been awarded the estimated $20 million creative, media and integrated marketing duties of Advanced Micro Devices after a review, the agency confirmed.

Y&R in San Francisco and WPP siblings Mediaedge:cia, also in San Francisco, and SicolaMartin in Austin, Texas, will handle the microprocessor maker’s account, an agency representative said.

The incumbent was Interpublic Group’s McCann Erickson in San Francisco. The client could not be reached for comment.

“We are honored to be partnering with this technology leader,” said Penny Baldwin, North American managing partner, Y&R, San Francisco. She said the win is “a tremendous opportunity for us to leverage our industry expertise to deliver a fully integrated and multifaceted campaign that builds and enhances the AMD brand.”

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based AMD spent $15 million advertising in 2004, per TNS Media Intelligence. Sources said that direct and integrated marketing, which comprise a large part of the company’s ad efforts, boost that figure significantly.
