LOS ANGELES Young & Rubicam today laid off staffers “across all different departments and levels” in its New York headquarters, a representative of the WPP Group agency confirmed.

Sources said the terminations involved 45-50 people, or approximately 10 percent of the shop’s New York staff. The Y&R rep declined to provide a total number of jobs cut.

The reduction was motivated by revenue losses stemming from the departure late last year of the Computer Associates account, as well as AT&T’s withdrawal from consumer advertising to concentrate on business-to-business markets.
