Trims to 4 Finalists

ATLANTA has cut the list of contenders for its $4 million advertising account to four shops, sources said.

The finalists are Omnicom Group’s GSD&M in Austin, Texas, and WPP Group’s Ogilvy & Mather, Havas’ Euro RSCG and independent Venables, Bell & Partners, all in San Francisco. There is no incumbent.

BellSouth of Atlanta and SBC Communications of San Antonio jointly bought last November for about $100 million. The new venture is based in Pasadena, Calif.

Charles Stubbs, an executive with BellSouth’s online Yellow Pages division,, is the president and chief executive of the new venture. Bill Clenney and Debbie Slavin, both executives with SBC’s online directory,, have been named chief financial officer and senior vice president of operations, respectively.

Wanamaker Associates of Atlanta is handling the search.
