NEW YORK Tro Piliguian, North American chairman of Ogilvy & Mather, is leaving the agency he joined 17 years ago to become chief operating officer at Ogilvy parent company WPP Group, an Ogilvy representative confirmed.

The shift, which takes effect in January, comes a few months after Piliguian handed his North American CEO duties to Bill Gray and Carla Hendra.

A description of his new job, which also is new for WPP, was not immediately available. His chairman’s job at Ogilvy will not be filled, according to the agency rep.
