WPP Group’s Axelrod Heads to eBay

NEW YORK Beth Axelrod, chief talent officer at WPP Group and a member of the holding company’s board, has resigned to take the top human resources position at online auction company eBay, a WPP representative has confirmed.

“Beth has received an offer to go to eBay. She will in due course step down from the WPP board and will be replaced by another executive director,” the rep said.

Axelrod, 42, joined the London-based company almost three years ago from management consultancy McKinsey & Co., replacing Brian Brooks, who had moved to Interpublic Group as that company’s chief talent executive.

One source said Axelrod was guiding the search for her own replacement and that her departure date has not been determined.

Axelrod could not be reached. A rep for eBay in San Jose, Calif., declined to comment.

Axelrod is one of the authors of The War for Talent, a book about the highly charged competition for top-level executives.
