WPP Digital Leader Mark Read Takes the Reins of Wunderman

Succeeds Daniel Morel as CEO

Daniel Morel is stepping down after more than 14 years as global CEO of Wunderman, giving way to Mark Read, a digital leader at parent company WPP Group who added chairman responsibilities at Wunderman last June.

With the changing of the guard, Morel will become non-executive chairman, and Read will leave WPP's board but keep his role as CEO of WPP Digital. The moves take effect next week.

Wunderman, a global digital and direct marketing specialist, is part of WPP's Young & Rubicam Group. Its top accounts include Ford, Best Buy, Pfizer, Shell, Coca-Cola and United Health Group.

Morel became chairman and CEO of what was then known as Impiric in late 2000, replacing Jay Bingle. Impiric represented an attempt to turn Wunderman, a big player in direct marketing, into a relationship marketing consultancy. But after the shift failed to gain traction, Morel, in his first big move as CEO, restored the Wunderman name in June 2001.

In a statement, WPP CEO Martin Sorrell credited Morel with making Wunderman a "global powerhouse." He added that Read "brings a wealth of knowledge in digital technology and its application to marketing services, as well as strong links to our new media partners," referring to the likes of Google, Twitter and Facebook.
