Worldgroup Taps Growth Officer

NEW YORK Interpublic Group’s McCann Worldgroup said it has promoted Matt Weiss to chief growth officer of its U.S. operations.

A 16-year veteran of McCann Erickson, Weiss began at the New York agency in account management and worked his way up to his most recent title, evp, director of new business development for the flagship office. He has held that position since 2002.

In his new role, Weiss, 40, will be responsible for new business not only for McCann Erickson’s U.S. offices, but will work “cross corridor” with its Worldgroup siblings such as MRM Worldwide, Momentum, McCann Healthcare and Universal McCann on shared accounts. He will continue to report jointly to WorldGroup COO, North America regional director Eric Keshin, and Brett Gosper, president of McCann Erickson USA.

In a statement, Gosper said, “Matt has done an extraordinary job of leading our new business initiatives in New York, and keeping our momentum going year after year. We look forward to the results of expanding his territory and impact.”

In his new role, Weiss, 40, will be responsible for developing business opportunities in the U.S. for McCann Erickson agencies and across Worldgroup companies.

The agency said Weiss was key to winning accounts such as Intel, Verizon Wireless, Staples and Nikon in the past three years.

He also helped pitch and win the agency’s marquee MasterCard account in 1997. Weiss later served as group director on that account and then supervised the global rollout of the “Priceless” campaign.

During his tenure at the agency, Weiss has also worked on Johnson & Johnson, Unilever and Nestle and assisted on Coca-Cola and Nabisco.
