Wired in Seattle

If you want some company logging on to the Web, you’d do better in the Valley than in the Alley.

According to a new study by Nielsen NetRatings, Milpitas, Calif., the most wired cities are located in the Pacific Northwest: Portland and Seattle top the list with almost 70 percent Net penetration. New York is, well, respectable at 55 percent. But East Coast markets shouldn’t feel too bad — one of their own gets the award for most improved: Philadelphia, No. 18 on the list, showed the biggest increase in getting Web-wired, with an average of 49 percent more people logging on this year than last.
