If you believe the talk, Gold Coast is toast, but the Miami agency’s ads continue to win awards for its restless Office Depot account.

Its “Teacher, Back-to-School” television campaign, which broke last fall, has gone gold at the 49th annual Retail Advertising Conference held in Chicago earlier this month.

The sentimental spots for Office Depot were among 200 other retail ad entries created for clients including The Home Depot, Office Max, Marshall Field’s, WalMart and Pier 1 Imports.

“To be recognized among such top retailers says a lot about the caliber of work we do,” said Bob Utsman, chief executive officer of Gold Coast. “It’s a great reflection of who we are as anad agency.”

Office Depot, based in Del Ray Beach, Fla., has had its estimated $60 million advertising account in review for the last three months.

Finalists include BBDO and Grey Worldwide in New York as well as DDB Chicago.

Executives at those agencies have said that incumbent Gold Coast is not in the running to retain Office Depot’s account.
