Why Shoes Matter to Working Women

Apparently the stereotype of women as avid shoe shoppers has some basis in reality. In a Mintel survey released this month, 64 percent of working women said they “rely on footwear to complete or change the look of their work clothes.”

And one pair of shoes in a workday may not suffice, particularly for the younger women. Forty-four percent of the survey’s 18-34-year-olds said they “wear one pair of shoes into the office, then change into something more stylish at work.”

But the respondents are not slaves to fashion, oh no! Eighty-two percent said they dress “to please themselves,” though this cohort must overlap with the 34 percent who “like to keep up with the latest fashions.”
