NEW YORK-Bill Whitehead, regional president of the Americas for Bates, has resigned, the company confirmed Thursday.

David Hearn, 46, who joined in March as chairman and CEO of Bates Worldwide, will assume Whitehead’s responsibilities. Hearn, formerly chief executive of Australian-owned food company Goodman Fielder, was tapped by Cordiant Communications Group CEO Michael Bungey to build the profile of Bates North America and win global business.

Whitehead’s resignation follows the loss of the agency’s $160 million Hyundai creative and media account.
