With back-to-school season in full swing, big-box retailers got a boost with shoppers in August, according to the YouGov BrandIndex, which takes the pulse of consumer perception for more than 1,100 brands and assigns a score ranging from 100 to -100. Target had a TV spot featuring crooner Larsen Thompson. Walmart has been running a flurry of deals, and Ikea got attention for its August catalog featuring computer-generated images. Other brands that made the monthly top 10 gainers list were Lipitor, which has been offering coupons to fend off competition from generics; and AT&T and Red Bull, which have been active in sports sponsorships.
