Weiss Shifts Shops

Emily Weiss, the top media director of Saat chi & Saatchi’s Torrance, Calif., office, is joining Dailey & Associates this week as evp, media director.

Weiss, 42, will succeed Marc Feidelson, 63, who plans to retire at year’s end. At Saatchi, she worked primarily on the shop’s $380 million Toyota Motor Sales account and led the 40-person media department.

Weiss said she left after 20 years at Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi and its predecessor agencies because she wants to work on a diverse roster of clients.

“I usually don’t take those phone calls,” said Weiss, referring to Dailey president Brian Morris’ recruiting call. “It was very difficult to leave Saatchi, but this gives me a chance to expand and work on more than automotive.”

“This is the coup of all coups,” said Morris about Weiss’ arrival at the West Hollywood, Calif.-based Interpublic Group shop, whose clients include Safeway, Nestlé and Phillips 76.

As for longtime media leader Feidelson, Morris credited him with building Dailey’s media department to its current staff of 55 people handling an estimated $500 million in billings.

“He put us on the map,” said Morris.

Feidelson said he plans to move to Vermont, but will remain a consultant for Dailey, primarily handling network negotiations.

Saatchi Torrance CEO Scott Gilbert said the shop is seeking a replacement for Weiss, who was named to her most recent post in May 2001 after the retirement of another longtime media executive, 30-year Saatchi veteran Richard Weigand.
