This Week’s Must-Haves: Nintendo’s New NES Is a Total ’80s Throwback

This week, the Adweek staff is highlighting Nintendo's new (and improved) NES system, Timex's subtly smart watch, Stubbs & Wootton's snarky slippers and more fun holiday gifts. Take a look!

Nintendo NES Classic Edition, $60

So far this year, we've hit theaters to see the new Ghostbusters, obsessed over Winona Ryder's latest project, bought tickets to see Guns N' Roses on tour and eagerly awaited new music from A Tribe Called Quest. Need further proof that '80s nostalgia is back in full force? Consider the fact that one of 2016's hottest holiday toys is the Nintendo NES. Yes, you read that right: The classic 1985 gaming system has returned to stores—albeit in a slightly different (and smaller) form. The new NES Classic Edition comes plug-and-play ready with an HDMI cable, full-size (wired!) controller and 30 pre-loaded games, including favorites like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong. If you're really dedicated to recreating that authentic '80s experience, you can even play in CRT mode, which recreates the look of an old-school TV on your modern day screen—scan lines and all.

Update, Nov. 30: The gaming system has sold out at many retailers.
