WB, ABC Unveil Kids’ Schedules

NEW YORK — The broadcast and cable networks are gearing up for the $1 billion children’s upfront advertising sales market for the 2001-02 season. The WB Network’s Kids’ WB! and ABC on Thursday unveiled their new fall slates for media buyers in New York.

Kids’ WB! is launching five new animated series plus a live-action entry from “Goosebumps” author R.L. Stine, while ABC is whipping up a Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen series for its “Disney’s One Saturday Morning” lineup. Kids’ WB!’s “The Nightmare Room,” based on Stine’s new book series, is an anthology show about a teenager with eyeglasses that penetrate the masks people hide behind. It is the network’s first live-action program and is slated to air in the fall in the Saturday 11:30 a.m. slot.

One of Kids’ WB!’s new animated shows is “The Mummy,” produced by Universal Television and based on the Universal Pictures theatrical release of the same name.

Over at ABC, the Olsen twins — now teenagers — star in a series about the exploits of two sisters as movie actresses. The Olsens will host a live-action lead-in to each episode’s animated adventure.
