LOS ANGELES Amid findings that show a decrease in smoking rates among its youth, Washington State’s Department of Health has launched a campaign that aims to reduce rates further.

The effort, from Interpublic Group’s Sedgwick Rd. in Seattle, includes TV, radio, print and online ads aimed at kids ages 9-14. Spending on the campaign is $1.4 million, according to Tim Church, a representative for the DOH in Olympia, Wash.

Two 30-second TV spots dramatize the slippery slope of addiction.
