NEW YORK The painfully old-fashioned bankers in WaMu’s advertising by Leo Burnett are usually somewhat amusing, but this latest incarnation casts them in a lame talk show called Chattin’ With The Pen. The spot is just painful. When an audience member presses the “pen” about why they charge fees for checks and ATM use (when WaMu doesn’t), one banker offers a nonsensical answer that should yield some well-timed comedy. It comes off instead as simply nonsensical.
