BENTONVILLE, ARK. – Wal-Mart responded last week to the Target Stores campaign that charged Wal-Mart with unfair price comparisons in several markets. Wal-Mart said it was ‘shocked at Target’s smear campaign because it challenges our integrity and because it exploits the memory of our founder, Sam Walton.’ The Target ads, which ran in nine markets two weeks ago, carried the headline, ‘This Never Would Have Happened If Sam Walton Was Alive,’ and talked about misleading in-store price comparisons.
