VitroRobertson Tops At San Diego Show

VitroRobertson captured the most gold and silver awards, as well as the Best of Show award for advertising, at The Creative Show San Diego 1998 last Saturday night.
The San Diego agency won Best of Show for its overall campaign for Odyssey Golf. It also picked up 12 gold and 14 silver awards for its work for Odyssey, Shimano and other clients. In addition, agency principals John Vitro and John Robertson received the Paula E. Sullivan Outstanding Achievement Award recognizing their efforts in the communications industry.
Marshall Harrington Photography, San Diego, picked up Best of Show honors for design for its Fern Street Circus ads.
Big Bang Idea Engineering, Carlsbad, Calif., earned four gold awards recognizing its work for clients such as Gold’s Gym and the show’s Call for Entries. San Diego-based Bulldog Drummond’s two golds were awarded for its corporate ID and work for Hoyt.
Several other San Diego shops won one gold award each: Daniel Renner, for a self-promotional piece; Matthews/Mark (formerly Capener, Matthews & Walcher), for Lamkin; and Hollis Design, for a piece titled “Tenderness.”
Big Bang earned seven silver awards for work on its beer label design and for Gold’s Gym. Bulldog Drummond, Hollis Design, Visual Asylum, Beauchamp Studios and Rafael Lopez Studio, all in San Diego, won two silvers each.
Parker/White, Martin Stevers Design, Mentus, Horjus Design, Chapman Warwick Advertising and Public Relations, Scott Ramsey Design and Steven Morris Design, all in San Diego, and Lambesis in Del Mar won one silver award each.
In addition to the 21 golds and 40 silvers, 161 awards of excellence were also handed out. A special judges’ award for excellence was given to Brian Hostler, a student at The Advertising Arts College, for his multimedia entry on CD-ROM titled “Trust.”
The show was held at The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, located in La Jolla, Calif.
