NEW YORK VeriSign, a technology company that manages Web data and communications infrastructure for various clients, has acquired the mobile marketing services firm m-Qube for $250 million.

M-Qube, one of a growing number of specialized mobile “enabler” companies, handles all technological, back-end executional aspects of mobile advertising including actually creating ads.

The VeriSign deal indicates the growing importance of these companies’ role in giving mobile marketing a more prominent role in the advertising mix.

To date, m-Qube has implemented mobile marketing efforts for an impressive roster of big name advertisers, including Sony Pictures, CBS, Major League Baseball, Warner Music Group and Reuters.
