Velocity Builds

Velocity Advertising has been retained to launch a new footwear technology called Insolia and has added a pair of executives—Jeff Flem ings and Janet Kirkman—to new positions at the shop.

The Insolia ac count helps expand the year-old Boston agency’s cache in the consumer/retail segment, while the new hires signal that Velocity is moving beyond the startup stage and establishing diverse service offerings, said agency general manager Jennifer Tisdale.

“This is an opportunity to build something brand new,” said Flemings, who comes aboard as director of account planning to oversee research for current accounts and assist in new-business development.

For a decade, Flemings served as a planner with crosstown agency Ar nold, rising to vp/director of integrated marketing strategy of the shop’s Cipriani Kremer design unit, which is scheduled to close by the end of the year.

Kirkman joins as account supervisor on all Velocity accounts; she had previously been with Butler, Shine & Stern in Sausalito, Calif.

The pair are taking some duties from the recently promoted Tisdale, who will concentrate more on overseeing day-to-day operations, re cruitment and new business at the 15-person Velocity.

For Manchester, N.H.-based HBN Shoe, Velocity will help to promote the company’s Insolia branded technology, which is designed to make high-heeled shoes more comfortable.

HBN recently licensed the technology to Bata Ltd., a global foot wear manufacturer and retailer.
