Two new agencies composed of freelance specialists are attempting to take advantage ofthe swelling ranks of underemployed talent in Texas.

Van Slyke & Company Marketing Communications in Austin and Arsenal Communications in Dallas both hope to target small to midsize businesses with their networks of independent artists, writers, producers and Web designers.

Like other “virtual” shops such as Freelance City in Dallas, the latest entrants in the field market themselves as having lower overhead costs compared to traditional advertising agencies and a better ability to match resources with a variety of clients’ needs.
