U.S. Dept of Treasury “Capiche”

A public service campaign by the Ad Council and the U.S. Department of Treasury urges teens and young adults to keep their credit card spending in check with amusing spots from Lowe in New York and a Web site from Firstborn that warns, “Don’t let your credit put you in a bad place.” Online, at controlyourcredit.gov, that place is “the bad credit hotel,” where visitors can play a game or roam around to learn about managing debt and credit scores. In one TV spot, a new employee babbles to her boss about her careless college spending when the cigar-chomping manager cuts her off with, “Hey kid, I don’t credit check you, you don’t credit check me. Capiche?” He also informs her she may want to wear boots to work because of the office flooding, not exactly the most promising workplace environment. The spot concludes with the voiceover warning,  “Don’t let your bad credit put you in a bad job.” Another spot may hit teens closer to home, with a scenario that shows what happens when you try to buy a car with bad credit, you end up hitching a ride to a metal concert with your mom. –Eleftheria Parpis
