Unusual suspects

“During difficult times, it is important to remember the incredible bond of our industry and of this great city.”

So begins the invitation to this year’s Los Angeles Advertising Agencies Association conference, scheduled for April 25-28 at the Westin Mission Hills resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The theme is, “Business as unusual.”

Conference chairman Joe Hartnett, chief integrated marketing officer for The Phelps Group, said the event will address the difficulties the ad community has had over the past year. He said there has never been a more appropriate time for ad people to network and share ideas.

“This will be an impor tant meeting because of the challenges facing the industry,” said Hartnett. “It’s a great opportunity for people to meet, let their hair down and figure out ways to help grow the ad business by making the pie bigger.”

The meeting includes a presentation by former Procter & Gamble marketing executive Bob Wehling titled, “If I Was CEO of Your Agency Today.” Former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers and Internet gossip hound Matt Drudge will also appear. In addition, the Minority Advertising Training Program will host a comedy night featuring an auction for a cruise to Europe.
