United Technologies Contacts 20

United Technologies Corp. has contacted about 20 shops in its search for a U.S. agency to handle its $4 million account, a company representative said.

The Hartford, Conn.-based company, whose products range from helicopters to heaters, works with Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper in London, which has handled U.S. advertising as well as UTC’s work in Europe, company representative Paul Jackson said.

UTC wants a shop in the U.S. to continue its efforts to target in-vestors, Jackson said. A campaign from Euro RSCG now running on cable networks and in national newspapers is tagged, “Next things first.”

The company’s six brands are: Carrier, which is in the midst of its own review; Sikorsky, which makes the Blackhawk helicopter for the military as well as civilian models; Pratt & Whitney jet engines; Hamilton Sunstrand aer-ospace systems; Otis Elevator; and UTC Fuel Cells.

Sought is an agency “that can represent our technology for its innovative and creative value, why it’s new and why it’s important,” Jackson said.

A cut will be made from shops that return questionnaires and presentations will follow, Jackson said.

Carrier’s account, which is based in Syracuse, N.Y., is at Euro RSCG Tatham Partners in Chicago. A proposal request sent to agencies pegs spending at $6 million.
