Time Inc. Shakes Up ‘EW,’ ‘People’ Ops

NEW YORK Time Inc. today created the Time Inc. Entertainment Group, an umbrella organization for Entertainment Weekly and its Web site and the People Group.

Paul Caine will serve as the new unit’s president. The reorganization is designed to help Time Inc. better leverage its entertainment properties with advertisers, according to a company memo.

Caine, an 18-year veteran of the company, most recently has been publisher of the People Group, which comprises People, People.com, People en Espanol and StyleWatch.

At the same time, Dave Morris, president and publisher, EW, is leaving the company after 21 years. Morris’ long list of roles at Time Inc. includes helping to launch EW and serving as president of Sports Illustrated.

Caine is expected to name a new publisher of EW in the coming weeks.

EW has been somewhat troubled of late, with ad pages in the first nine months falling almost 10 percent compared to the same period a year ago, while People‘s ad pages have been flat, according to data from the Publishers Information Bureau.
