Three-Way Scrap for Bandai America

LOS ANGELES Bandai America has named three finalists in the review for its creative and media account, sources said.

They are: Dentsu’s Colby & Partners in Santa Monica, Calif., Interpublic Group’s Dailey & Associates in West Hollywood, Calif., and the incumbent, WPP’s J. Walter Thompson in Los Angeles, according to sources. At least one other contender, Interpublic Group’s McCann-Erickson in Los Angeles, did not advance, according to sources. Agency officials either declined comment or could not be reached.

The Cypress, Calif., client did not return calls seeking comment.

Bandai, manufacturer of toys and games such as the Power Rangers and Gundam lines, spent $21 million on advertising in 2002 and $10 million through September 2003, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

Presentations are expected to take place by late January or early February, with a decision shortly thereafter, according to sources.
