Third Time’s the Charm?

Will either Dante Ariola or Noam Murro win the Directors Guild of America Award for outstanding commercial director this time around? This is the third nomination for both. MJZ’s Ariola was nominated for his work on Stella Artois, Levi’s and Barclays, while Biscuit Filmworks’ Murro was given the nod for Adidas, Starbucks (pictured, right) and eBay spots. The other three nominees are all first-timers: Anonymous Content’s Andrew Douglas, Hungry Man’s Jim Jenkins and MJZ’s Fredrik Bond. The winner will be named on Jan. 29 during a ceremony in Los Angeles.

Groundhogs’ Day

Probably not in the job description when they were hired, two Red Tettemer staffers dressed in six-foot gopher suits star in the latest viral effort by the Philadelphia shop. In eight Web shorts, Punxsutawney Phil takes to the street in a gritty, NYPD Blue-style foot chase in pursuit of his shadow (another gopher, with dark fur). So far, six films have debuted on the site groundhogchase.com. In one, the shadow wears a habit and walks with a group of nuns. In another, the shadow flirts with a girl in a Laundromat until the gopher passes by and the chase resumes. The work is part of Red Tettemer’s Pennsylvania Department of Tourism account and urges travelers not to hibernate. Whether Phil catches his shadow will, of course, be revealed Feb. 2.
