Ten United Gives Grocer a Head Start

CHICAGO Ten United uses humor to sell grocery chain Shop ‘n Save’s Saturday weekly sales, which typically start a day earlier than the competition.

Two television spots breaking this week from the Pittsburgh agency illustrate the advantages of Shop ‘n Save’s earlier Saturday start for customers. In one spot, shoppers corral carts into a starting gate like a horse race. But when the bell rings, only one gate opens, while the others are left standing. A voiceover spells out that Shop ‘n Save beats competitors with weekly Saturday sales.

In a second spot, a sweet-looking elderly woman asks a young boy if he would like an ice cream cone. When he answers yes, the woman taunts him by saying he must wait until Sunday.

Both spots employ the tagline, “The more you shop, the more you save.” Spending on the campaign was not disclosed.
