Tedford to Arnold Promotions

Jamie Tedford has joined Arnold’s brand promotions unit as the group’s No. 2 manager.

As vp/management supervisor, Tedford reports to Beth Rice, svp and director of the 30-person unit at Boston’s Arnold. In the newly created position, Tedford will collaborate with Arnold’s direct, interactive, public relations and creative teams to pitch his division’s services to current Arnold clients as well as build new business.

Selling promotional programs to current and prospective clients, regardless of their marketing niche, tops Tedford’s agenda, he said. Arnold, like many agencies large and small, has of late been focusing on building diversified and below-the-line capabilities in light of the wounded economy.

A 10-year veteran of events and promotions development, Tedford spent eight years at Student Ad van tage, a Boston Internet portal that offer discounts to college students, most recently as vp/marketing services. There, he developed marketing strategies and executed programs for clients such as Coca-Cola, Hotjobs.com and Volks wagen of America. The latter ranks as Ar nold’s largest single client.

Prior to joining Student Advantage, Tedford spent two years at Speakers Worldwide, a Wash ington, D.C., company that books celebrities in speaking engagements.

At Arnold, Tedford plans to en hance new business and ex pand the 3-year-old unit’s capabilities in event market ing, street marketing, sponsorships and other programs to agency clients, such as Volkswagen and Monster.com.

“Boston’s a big promotions town, and I’d always admired Beth’s work,” Tedford said, citing Arnold’s college campus tours to promote VW’s certified used vehicles.

“Beth started [the promotions group] from scratch and has grown it into a viable business,” he said.

The shop is in the middle of managing a fall campus tour for VW, and it is gearing up to represent Monster.com at the February Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.

“Rather than ex pressing brand es sence in the form of traditional ad ver tising, we ex press it in events and promotions [in this group],” she said. “Jamie has spent the last few years doing just that.”

Other clients of Arnold Brand Promotions include The American Legacy Foundation, Citizens Bank and Keds. Parent com pany Arnold is a unit of Paris-based Havas Ad vertising.
