Team One’s Levit to Form Agency

No longer content to produce Lexus spots for Team One Advertising, Steve Levit is leaving to open his own shop.
Levit, 40, has been Team One’s creative director for nearly three years, working primarily on the estimated $350 million Lexus account. Levit joined the shop in 1994. His last day is July 1.
Levit wouldn’t discuss the details of his new endeavor, except to say that he and a group of undisclosed partners will open an agency in Los Angeles. He said the shop has already lined up a large client.
“The truth is that the work at Lexus is good. I just need to go out and expand my own horizons,” Levit said.
Sources said Levit may have been tiring of the lack of creative variety beyond Lexus–a problem that has been blamed for the loss of talent in the past.
“It’s a Lexus shop, and it’s hard for them to get new business,” a source said.
“That may have been one of the things he was thinking about, but it may not have been,” said co-chairman and CEO Brian Sheehan. “We do need to get more new business. I totally agree with that. But Steve’s real motivation is to go out on his own.”
Since its founding more than 12 years ago, Team One has consistently developed successful campaigns for its flagship client. The shop has been more aggressive of late in wooing new business, landing accounts such as Lexington, Mass.-based Verbind–a provider of real-time marketing and customer tracking solutions–and E-nutrition.com, Los Angeles, a provider of nutritional products.
