Team One’s Cordner Goes to JWT Detroit

DETROIT–Tom Cordner, co-chairman and executive creative director of El Segundo, Calif.-based Team One, is joining J. Walter Thompson in Detroit as executive vice president and executive creative director of the office and worldwide creative director on the Ford Motor Co. account. He will partner with Mike O’Malley, the office’s president.

Cordner will assume his new post at the WPP Group unit in January, O’Malley told staff this afternoon. He replaces Bruce Rooke, who left in August to join Gerbig, Snell/Weisheimer in Columbus, Ohio.

Cordner has been with Team One, the Saatchi & Saatchi unit created to handle Toyota’s luxury Lexus brand, since 1993. He has received numerous creative awards while at the Publicis Groupe shop, including five Cannes Festival Lions; 12 Clios; and six One Show Pencils.

Team One officials could not immediately be reached.

JWT Detroit is the largest office in the company’s network, with $1.6 billion in billings. Ford is the largest client of JWT and WPP.
