TBWA’s McNeel Succeeds Love on Nissan

NEW YORK John McNeel, the worldwide account director on TBWA’s Masterfoods business, is shifting to president and CEO of G1 Worldwide, the agency’s Tokyo-based joint venture with Hakuhodo on Nissan, sources said.

McNeel, 50, succeeds Tim Love, who is relocating to New York to focus on his other role of president of global clients, said sources.

Succeeding McNeel on Masterfoods is Corey Mitchell, a group account director on Sara Lee and Pennzoil at TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif., according to sources. Mitchell is expected to remain in Los Angeles in his new role. The agency did not return calls, but the moves were announced internally last week.

McNeel joined Omnicom Group’s TBWA in 2002 after a stint as a consultant and 14 years at Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi, lastly as evp, director of operations on Procter & Gamble in New York. The Masterfoods job required regular travel around the world, but McNeel was based in New York.

Love, 55, has been at TBWA since May 2004. He too is a Saatchi alum, lastly vice chairman international and worldwide CEO Kevin Roberts’ point man on P&G. Love’s ties to P&G trace back to his days as a top executive at D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, where he worked from 1989-99.

With the one-year noncompete clause in Love’s Saatchi contract set to expire in November, sources expect him to play a role in Omnicom’s quest to land P&G business, particularly given the parent company’s introduction to the package-goods giant via P&G’s pending acquisition of Gillette, whose lead agency is Omnicom’s BBDO.
