TBWA CFO Leaves for Abercrombie & Fitch

NEW YORK Long-time TBWA worldwide chief financial officer Jonathan Ramsden is leaving the Omnicom Group agency to become CFO of Abercrombie & Fitch.

Ramsden, 44, also was a member of TBWA’s executive committee. He joined the agency in 1998, after two years as controller and principal accounting officer at Omnicom.

“I believe his long-time experience in the highly charged, creative atmosphere of TBWA Worldwide and Omnicom Group will serve him well at Abercrombie & Fitch,” said Mike Jeffries, chairman and CEO of the New Albany, Ohio-based retailer. “I look forward to working with Jonathan as we continue to position our strong brands for the long term and steer Abercrombie & Fitch through the presently very challenging retail environment.”

Ramsden, who’s expected to start next month, fills a vacancy left by the August exit of CFO Michael Kramer, who became president and CEO of clothing manufacturer Kellwood Co. in Chesterfield, Mo.

At TBWA, Ramsden worked for three different worldwide CEOs: Michael Greenlees, Jean-Marie Dru and Tom Carroll. In an e-mail to staffers about Ramsden’s move, Carroll described the CFO as a “steady hand always.”

“You can’t underestimate Jonathan’s contributions to the TBWA network over the past few years,” Carroll added. “His work ethic, intelligence and insight have served all of us and Omnicom well.”

As the top financial executive at TBWA, Ramsden was based in New York and oversaw a staff of about 15-20. His duties will be absorbed by other senior  staffers while TBWA searches for a successor, said sources. TBWA declined to comment.
