Target Hires Wieden, BBDO

NEW YORK Target said it has added Wieden + Kennedy and BBDO to its roster of ad agencies.

Independent agency Peterson Milla Hooks has created the lion’s share of the company’s advertising in recent years. Efforts have featured the Target logo amid vibrant images and bold colors. The campaigns are tagged, “Expect more. Pay less.”

PMH officials did not return phone calls.

The Minneapolis-based retailer spent $420 million in U.S. media through November of last year, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

“The agencies will provide strategic marketing and creative support on select brand projects,” the company said in a statement. The specific assignments were not spelled out.

Neither Omnicom Group’s BBDO in New York nor independent Wieden in Portland, Ore., would provide details on the nature of the projects, referring all calls to the client. The client was not immediately available.

It also could not be determined whether PMH or KB+P were affected by the client’s decision to bring Wieden and BBDO aboard.

The discount retailer, which competes with WalMart and Kmart, has 1,400 stores in the U.S.
