Stoli’s Deep Freeze

The first TV spot for Stolichnaya Vodka continues the chilly theme of its bronze-Lion winning outdoor campaign with a spot showing a frozen-over apartment and the frost seeping into surrounding homes. Shot in Romania in October by Partizan directing duo Josh & Xander, the 30-second ad—running on cable TV—features a frost effect created with a machine that shoots paraffin wax from a hose. (The same effect was used in The Day After Tomorrow.) “[TV] was always something we were keen to do,” says Duncan Marshall, evp, executive creative director at Publicis in New York, which created the spot. “When we sold them the print campaign, we always said there was a bigger idea.” Even bigger than TV: The shop plans to create a faux iceberg fitted with a bar that would make a trip on the Hudson River.

Vader and Klum Take Off

Two characters in Mother’s Target ad last month touting the retail chain’s wake-up call service have proved to be popular in the ad world. Darth Vader, seen breathing heavily in the ad, is now featured in a new ESPN spot created by Wieden + Kennedy in New York. (The ad shows Star Wars characters brought in to figure out high-definition film equipment.) Another Target caller, Heidi Klum, is set to start as spokesperson for McDonald’s in an ad that begins shooting in January. No word yet if Dennis the Rooster or the bedroom-eyed “Heartbreaker” has picked up any new gigs.
