Instead, Bell surprised staffers by introducing Jerry Stahl, 50, as the new executive vp/gm.
That doesn’t mean Stahl was an unlikely or surprising choice, however. Two weeks ago, Bozell Worldwide president/ceo Charles D. Peebler said the agency would seek a gm with strong Minneapolis ties, unlike Benza, who had transferred from Bozell’s New York office five years ago. Stahl fits the bill, having spent the bulk of his career at Carmichael Lynch here before leaving the business two years ago to build a casino in Cripple Creek, Colo., and do consulting.
Stahl may be bucking the odds, but he’s set an annual billings goal of $84 million, where the office was in the late ’80s. Current billings are $55 million.
